EMC OFFERS ON-LINE BACKUP

By CBR Staff Writer

EMC Corp users can now back up their Oracle Corp databases without bringing the whole system down by using a Symmetrix Connect feature in a new release of the company’s Data Manager back up system. Formerly users had to take their production systems off-line to do backups. Currently using SCSI links to back up to tape, Ultra SCSI then Fiber Channel interconnects will follow. Supporting Oracle on Solaris initially, AIX and HP-UX release will follow. It didn’t mention other databases. Over 50% of data stored in Symmetrix systems is Oracle data. Prices go from $300,000-up for complete systems.
