EMC Corp, Hopkinton, Massachusetts yesterday announced that it broke ground on a 47,500 square foot extension to its European manufacturing plant in Cork, Eire, and expects to create over 110 jobs to add to the 90 there now. The company also added new models to its Harmonix 3.5 form factor Integrated Cached Disk Array for AS/400 users, offering HX3C variable capacity, the HX3HA high availability and HX3, with enhanced performance capability. The HX3HA offers mirroring and subsystem redundancy at pricing more competitive than RAID 5, it says. EMC now uses 1.75Gb 3.5 disks, and claims a price advantage of 35% on its 6.8Gb unit. The flagship Harmonix HX3, now has 256Kb cache, increased fourfold.
