In line with its continuing efforts to refocus its once highly successful, but now loss-making, business, Cap Gemini Sogeti SA has sold its 93% stake in Copernique SA to EMC Corp, Hopkinton, Massachusetts for an undisclosed sum. Copernique did $17m in sales last year from its high-performance disk controllers and related parts, and software associated with the storing and management of data. Cap Gemini said sale of the subsidiary, which is based largely in the Paris region, strengthens EMC’s position in Europe and expands its portfolio of distributed storage products. EMC has been transformed from a small hopeful into a heavyweight by the success of its disk array subsystems for IBM Corp mainframes and AS/400 systems. Compagnie des Machines Bull SA holds the other 7% of Copernique, and is one of the company’s OEM customers.
