Founded in 1998, Authentica says its customers are based in the Fortune 2000, and include United Healthcare, the US State Department, Corning, and the FBI. Alongside VC funds, Authentica’s investors have included Symantec Corp.
The company’s enterprise rights management (ERM) software manages the circulation of Microsoft Office and PDF files by restricting recipients’ abilities to print, copy or paste data. Email and attachments are kept confidential and tamper-proof, and are tracked via an audit trail.
EMC said that all of Authentica’s staff will be retained. Authentica’s offices are less than 50 miles from EMC’s headquarters in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
