Ambeo claims that its packet sniffing-like technology generates far less overhead compared to turning on database logging.

The company, originally founded by data warehousing guru Bill Inman, was initially formed to audit large data warehouses without compromising performance. The company already has a significant presence in the Teradata market.

Beside closing security gaps, Embarcadero views the Ambeo software as a key compliance tool to document data integrity and records privacy.

Meanwhile, the company is also releasing version 7 of ER Studio, its data modeling tool, which is adding new capabilities for modeling business rules dependencies among multiple databases or database instances, improved documentation on the lineage of data populating data warehouses, capacity planning, and security policy modeling. The product will be available at the end of October.
