Elonex Plc has shifted the design and manufacture of its personal computers from Taiwan to the UK. Manufacture of the new generation of Elonex personal computers is being carried out by East Kilbride-based Avex Electronics Ltd, and integration will take place at Elonex’s London facility. The company says that annual production will be around 100,000 and with plans for further European expansion, both production and employment levels are likely to increase in subsequent years. Elonex established a Brussels-based office last year, describing it as a bridgehead into continental Europe, and one of its first contracts was to supply 32-bit computers to the European Community Council of Ministers. The new personal computers are the result of more than $1.5m research and development investment at the company’s Santa Clara base. The systems are based on 32-bit microprocessors, ranging from the entry-level 20MHz 80386SX to a 50MHz 80486. Other models include the 33MHz 80386 and 33MHz 80486. Available now, no prices.
