At the end of last year, the international arm of systems integrator Electronic Data Systems Corp acquired Tokyo systems reseller and personnel supplier Linc Computer from its founder New Zealander Terrie Lloyd, for $10m. Linc Computer. It was founded in 1990 to serve the data processing staffing and systems needs of Japan-based foreign companies. The company saw rapid growth especially after the bursting of the bubble economy when many foreign companies found locally-hired foreign computer staff from companies such as Linc a much better deal than their own expensive expatriates. At acquisition, Linc had almost 100 staff and annual sales of over $10m. Electronic Data Systems had several false starts in Japan and presumably by this acquisition hopes to acquire a good customer list and energetic staff to assist in servicing it.
