ELECTRONIC DATA PROCESSING PROFITS INCREASE COMES FROM ACQUISITION

By CBR Staff Writer

Virtually the whole of the 37% increase in pre-tax profits at Electronic Data Processing Plc (see page three) came from the first full year contribution from Business Computer Systems Plc, the Unlisted Securities Market company acquired last year (CI No 331): BCS made UKP403,000 in the 12 months against UKP105,000 in the 29 weeks it was included in EDP’s figures in 1986: with the tax bill staying almost stationary – up UKP2,000 to UKP332,000 – the Sheffield Pick-popper, which recently joined the full list, was able to report earnings per share up 39% at 12 pence; the board says current trading is going well and the prospects are good.
