Following on from the deals announced by Istel Ltd last week (CI No 1,293), the Electronic Data Interchange service provider has revealed two new contracts to provide software and support to TS1, a subsidiary of Telefonica de Espana SA, and Netherlands company Raet, with the long-term objective that the two companies should become providers of the Electronic Data Interchange service in Spain and the Benelux countries respectively, in the same way as Istel is in the UK, and Cable & Wireless, another of Istel’s trading partners, is in Hong Kong: exact figures were not disclosed, but TS1, which was represented at yesterday’s announcement at the EDI ’89 conference in London, says it will be paying Istel a flat fee of around UKP100,000 a year for the software and transfer of technology, which will include training and consultancy; Raet was not there to say what kind of deal it has with Istel, but Istel stated that it was roughly the same size as the TF1 contract.
