The Electronic Arts Productions Ltd UK production arm of Electronic Arts Inc, San Mateo, California claims to have negotiated with stage and film trade union Actor’s Equity the UK’s first comprehensive contract covering talent performing in interactive media productions. Electronic Arts already has a similar agreement with the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists. The UK end is in pre-production of the first British interactive movie, presently called The Darkling, which will shoot at Pinewood Studios at the end of the month – it doesn’t say who is in it. The agreement runs to May 1997 and covers talent in all on-camera and off-camera performing categories – singing, dancing and voice-overs and on all types of interactive system. Terms set minimum salaries equivalent to the rates in Equity’s current Television Production Agreement with the Producers’ Alliance for Cinema and Television.
