Montreal, Quebec-based Eicon Technology Inc has launched a new version of its SNA LAN Gateway, which it claims can provide strong competition to Novell Inc’s NetWare for SAA. The company also launched a new version of its OSI LAN Gateway. Both gateways are installed directly as NetWare Loadable Modules in a NetWare file server or with NetWare Runtime – the first time this functionality has been available from anyone but Novell, according to the company. But unlike NetWare for SAA, Eicon’s SNA and OSI LAN Gateways can also install in MS-DOS and OS/2. The SNA LAN Gateway can connect to virtually all IBM systems in an SNA network, says the company, via SDLC, X25, Token Ring and Ethernet connections. The OSI LAN Gateway connects local network workstations to electronic mail systems, public databases and TCP/IP hosts connected to the X25 network. It is compatible with GOSIP, CCITT and X400 standards. The two gateways can be installed in the same server and share the same X25 physical link. The gateways are available immediately. The Canadian company has also announced that Chessington, Surrey-based Persona Plc will distribute its products in the UK.
