Hybrid cloud computing infrastructure company Egnyte has integrated Google Drive into its storage and sharing system to simplify file management for IT managers and end users.
Egnyte’s updated solution – which coincides with recent IDG findings that 61% of businesses rely heavily on on-premise storage – should enable users to view, share and edit Google and MS Office files, as well as CAD drawing and images, in secure Egnyte folders wherever they are, removing the need for the cloud and having a Gmail account.
The California-based company said its storage capabilities, which include real-time auditing of all file, folder and login activity, would also provide IT with enhanced control and visibility over user files.
Vineet Jain, CEO of Egnyte, said: "This new Google Drive integration makes enterprise users even more productive by providing a single, simple view into all files they have access to, no matter where those files are located – on-premise, in the cloud, or in Google Drive."
Other features include secure links, access from any tablet or mobile device and Storage Sync, which enables users to access files via NAS and SAN storages devices from NetApp and EMC.
The company has also appointed Piotr Malinski as director of engineering at its headquarters in Poland.
Malinski, the former IT boss at UK-based asset management firm, Semperian, will be responsible for handling the company’s product functionality and file management platform.
"His deep IT expertise will help Egnyte meet the growing market demand for more product functionality as cloud and mobile technologies play a increasing role in enterprise IT," added Jain.
Piotr Malinski said: "My ambition is to provide all businesses with a secure solution that enables users to collaborate without being prohibited by constraints such as network speed, office bandwidth, or system compatibility."
Egnyte, which combines the speed and security of local storage with the accessibility of the cloud, said it expects to increase its operational staff from 10 to 20 in Poland by the end of the year. .
