EGGHEAD.COM MAINTAINS RATE OF CHANGE

By CBR Staff Writer

Egghead.com, the Spokane, Washington PC retailer which in January closed its physical stores to move entirely to the web, says it will now replace its existing business systems with an upgrade based on the Oracle platform. With Media Metrix clocking Egghead and its subsidiary sites as one of the top ten e-commerce outfits on the web, the company says it needs and deserves more scalable and secure technological underpinnings. The retailer isn’t divulging how much it paid for Oracle8, Oracle Application Server, Oracle Internet Commerce Server and Oracle Applications, with Oracle Consulting Services on the side, but it’s probably less than the monthly rent on its former real estate, not to mention the salaries for its in-store staff.
