EEC COMMISSION TO INVESTIGATE JAPANESE SALES OF MATRIX AND DAISYWHEEL PRINTERS IN EUROPE

By CBR Staff Writer

The EEC Commission is following up its investigation of alleged dumping of semiconductors in Europe by instituting a similar probe of matrix and daisywheel printers from Japan, at the behest of the Committee of European Printer Manufacturers: the Commission reckons that Japan sold 1.52m matrix printers in Europe last year, up from 255,000 in 1983, and that its market share rose to 74% from 52% while European manufacturers’ share plummeted to 11% from 35%; in daisywheel printers, it reckons Japanese sales rose 40% to 195,000 units over the same period, raising its market share to 74% from 70%, while European makers’ share fell to 7.5% from 12%.
