EE to double 4G LTE network reach by March 2013

Coverage expansion means around four million people will be able to use 4G connectivity

By CBR Staff Writer

UK’s 4G LTE mobile network EE is planning to double the number of cities which can access its 4G network by adding 17 more regions across UK by March 2013.

During the initial three months of 2013, the firm will launch 4G in Bradford, Chelmsford, Coventry, Doncaster, Dudley, Leicester, Luton, Newport, Reading, Rotherham, St Albans, Sunderland, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall, Watford, West Bromwich andWolverhampton.

The expansion in coverage across the UK will mean that approximately four million people will be able to access EE’s superfast mobile internet network.

EE chief executive officer Olaf Swantee said by the end of the first quarter of 2013, 4G will be available in 35 towns and cities across the UK, making superfast mobile accessible to thousands more customers and businesses.

"We’re delighted with the progress of the 4G rollout – we are improving the network every day, delivering superfast mobile to more and more people right across metropolitan areas, whether they’re using their devices outdoors or in their homes and offices," Swantee said.

"This has struck a chord with businesses in particular, with great demand being seen. We’re delighted to already be powering large, medium and small businesses with 4G," he added.

Recently EE switched on its 4G services in Derby, Newcastle and Nottingham, while the service is scheduled to be launched in Belfast, Hull, Maidenhead and Slough before the end of 2012, bringing the total 4G launches in 2012 to 18.
