British mobile operator EE has restored its services after a brief outage due to ‘gremlins in the system’, which affected about 27 million customers across the country.

The outage also prevented its consumers from making phone calls, texting and using the internet for about 13 hours.

Apologising for the inconvenience caused, EE said that a technical issue has been causing some of the customers to experience problems with their signal.

"Last night a small proportion of our customers experienced problems with our network," the mobile phone operator added.

"We know that this is extremely frustrating, and first and foremost we’d like to apologise to anyone who was affected.

"Our engineers resolved the issue, and normal service was restored for all affected customers overnight.

"Some phones may need to be switched off and on again to ensure service is fully restored."

With the complete network being restored, users are now advised to restart their device if they are facing any glitches.

The latest outage comes only a week after mobile analytics firm RootMetrics said EE as the best mobile phone network in an independent study of mobile performance.
