EE pitches for cheap market with own-brand phone

4G provider makes further inroads into the devices market.

By Alexander Sword

EE is launching two new smartphones and two 4GEE wi-fi devices optimised for EE’s network.

The digital communications company launched the Harrier, Harrier Mini, Osprey 2 and Osprey 2 Mini in coming weeks.

The second EE-branded smartphone, the Harrier aims to provide advanced features on an affordable device. The 8.9mm handset carries Android Lollipop, an Octa-Core 1.5Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a Full HD 5.2" display. It also hosts CAT 4 chipset technology to access EE’s 4G network and a 13 MP camera.

In addition, the Harrier Mini provides a more compact version of the same features, with Android Lollipop, a 1.2Ghz processor, a 4.7" display and 8MP camera.

EE also introduced new devices to facilitate 4G wi-fi. Osprey 2 is a 4G mobile internet hotspot allowing ten devices to connect, while the Opsrey 2 Mini is a smaller version of the same product. The Osprey 2 product emphasises battery life, with its 5,150mAh capacity providing 15 hours of streaming.

The product will launch to consumers and enterprises on 28 April.

Pippa Dunn, Chief Marketing Officer at EE, said: "Customer take-up of our existing EE branded products has been phenomenal, so we’ve worked hard to create new feature packed devices.
