EE launches Buzzard, first 4G car WiFi in UK

A suite of new launches includes “affordable” Eagle 4G tablet.

By CBR Staff Writer

Telco firm EE is launching a raft of 4G services in the UK including the first 4G-enabled car WiFi to "improve accessibility of superfast mobile internet" in Britain.

The company is introducing Buzzard, the UK’s first 4G-enabled car WiFi. The plug-and-pay device is suitable for cars with 12v connection and provides 4G service to 10 connections. The service will be available from 28 May.

EE’s two other WiFi devices – pocket-sized Kite and colourful and rugged ‘Osprey’ – will be introduced in the coming months. Kite is targeted at professionals while Osprey is for younger users.

The company’s Eagle 4G to be launched soon is claimed to be the most affordable tablet in the UK.

EE plans to focus on video experience as video and TV data traffic is expected to grow 1,100% in the next four years, and will comprise more than two-thirds of data on the network by 2018.

The company has 3.6 million 4G customers and claims its 4G sales have exceeded those of 3G.

EE’s focus is on providing 4G services in rural areas and on transport routes. It provides services in 2,588 villages and small towns; and 47 train stations, and 22 airports.
