EDS wins $110m Abu Dhabi contract

An EDS joint venture has been chosen by the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) in the United Arab Emirates for a ten-year, $110m contract covering the entire scope of the utility's IT services.

The joint venture, known as Injazat Data System, also includes Mubadala Development Company. Injazat will provide the ADWEA group of companies with infrastructure, applications, and project management services. More than 150 ADWEA IT employees will transfer over to Injazat as part of the deal.

In a statement, EDS said the contract is the largest full-service outsourcing deal to date in the Middle East.

EDS this week also announced two additional contracts, both for an undisclosed amount. Under a 10-year deal with United Airlines, EDS will upgrade the airline’s computer systems and provide desktop, helpdesk, and managed services. The contract also covers procurement, asset management, and third-party provider management for United.

A second contract extends EDS’ previous relationship with Sprint Nextel and includes services such as midrange hosting, storage, and network support. EDS has for four year provided Nextel with desktop, helpdesk, hardware resale, midrange, and LAN support. And for two years the company has been doing application development and maintenance work for Sprint.
