EDS OPENS UP Y2K COMPLIANCE DATABASE TO WEB USERS

By CBR Staff Writer

Electronic Data Systems Corp has put up an online compliance information database on the web detailing over 125,000 hardware and software components from 3,000 vendors, and their progress towards compliance. Vendor 2000 – www.eds.com/vendor2000 – intended to be used by businesses, governments and individual consumers for Year 2000 compliance questions, is maintained and updated daily by the CIO Services unit of EDS, and the company says it’s capable of receiving millions of hits per day. EDS says it’s opening up the service, already in use by 4,000 EDS customers and built up over the last four years, partly in response to the Good Samaritan legislation now before Congress (see Top Stories), which encourages organizations to share Year 2000 information with one another and the public.
