Electronic Data Systems Corp said Thursday that it had signed two international contracts worth roughly $816m. The Plano, Texas- based company has inked a deal in Italy worth $466m and has won preferred tenderer status for a contract in Australia which is expected to be worth about $350m.

In Italy, EDS will supply ENI, Italy’s largest energy company, with a broad array of IT services over the next five years, including data center and client server operations, distributed systems management for technology and communications, desk-side support, engineering procurement and fulfillment, help desk and disaster recovery.

In Australia, meanwhile, EDS was all but guaranteed a similar five-year $350m contract with the Australian Taxation Office. The contract comes as part of the federal government’s program to outsource most of its IT activities. In conjunction with the deal, EDS has agreed to establish a business center in Australia to facilitate the growth of electronic business within the Asia Pacific region.
