A team of industry veterans from the likes of Rolm Co – later IBM Corp, Sybase Inc, Metaphor Computer Systems Inc and Racal Milgo Inc reckon that they have spotted a gap in the market and have formed Edify Corp in Santa Clara, California to develop products to plug it. The aim is to come up with software that gets the right information to the right person in the right format at the right time and the first product, designed to automate sales, service and support applications, is already in beta test for shipping later this quarter. It is described as an intelligent system that provides virtual software agents to automate the information flow between an organisation and its information customers easily and quickly. Edify has raised $8.8m from Sutter Hill Ventures, Technology Venture Investors, Highland Capital Partners, Greylock Management Corp, Sigma Partners and Glynn Capital Ventures. The management team has expertise in development, marketing and management of object development systems, transaction processing databases, data communications, speech processing and telephony applications and includes Dr Charles Jolissaint, who holds 13 patents in software and communications from work at Rolm and IBM as chief technical officer.
