Content delivery network (CDN) provider EdgeCast Networks has introduced its new Download Manager, a cross-platform, client-installable file distribution product.

The new customisable product can be installed by end users to manage file downloads. It provides file transfer experience including pause, resume, and auto-recovery functionality for file updates, purchased software, and other software packages.

Download Manager can be configured to a suit of distributor and end user needs. The company said that the customisable XML/CSS interface allows customers to include interaction, advertising, and other components using Adobe Flash, HTML5, JavaScript, or other client-side presentation formats.

In addition, the new product offers reporting and analytics while protecting end users’ personal privacy by collecting no personally identifiable information. Its reporting capabilities give companies the ability to integrate download metrics and delivery receipts into existing e-commerce and fulfillment systems, the company said.

EdgeCast Networks product management vice-president Ted Middleton said their software distribution customers include producers of desktop games and antivirus software, as well as companies selling and delivering software online.

"They’ve asked us for a tool that helps them understand and manage their delivery, and we’re excited to be delivering it with Download Manager," Middleton said.

"Download Manager gives them the insight and flexibility they need while offering them new opportunities to engage with customers."
The EdgeCast Download Manager is available immediately.
