Under the terms of the contract, Eclipsys will manage and run the Information Technology operations for North Shore Long Island Jewish (LIJ)-owned hospitals, which include network, desktop and distributed services, help desk support and problem resolution, as well as applications and mainframe systems services. As part of the transaction, approximately 180 employees that currently support North Shore-LIJ operations will be transferred to Eclipsys.
North Shore-LIJ is the nation’s third-largest, non-profit, secular healthcare system with a service area of 5.2 million people in Long Island, Queens and Staten Island. It is the largest employer on Long Island, with more than 35,000 employees, 7,000 physicians and 7,000 nurses. The health system has a $3.7 billion annual operating budget.
For many healthcare organizations, it makes good financial sense to outsource IT operations, said Russ Rudish, executive vice president of Services at Eclipsys. He added that, This is one of the most important deals in our history.
The contract directly covers Information Technology outsourcing for the North Shore-LIJ Health System’s nine owned hospitals.
North Shore-LIJ also plans to implement the complete suite of Eclipsys’ Sunrise clinical solutions over a timeframe yet to be determined. As part of this phased implementation, Eclipsys will also provide professional services and training.
