Formally announcing its new $20m of funds from Quantum Fund and Motorola Inc (CI No 2,420), Palo Alto, California-based Echelon Corp listed some of its diverse design wins – now over 800. Europe’s largest maker of lift controls, Germany’s Kollmorgen Steuerungstechnik GmbH, has developed a decentralised elevator control system. AT&T Corp’s Network Systems is using LONWorks in an alarm system that monitors and controls critical telecommunications equipment. Sweden’s second largest electricity generator, Sydkraft AB, is using LONWorks to keep track of cost and usage data on an ongoing basis. Echelon and Oracle Corp demonstrated LONWorks can act on data sent by Oracle’s Media Server to control thermostats, water heaters, dryers, dishwashers, and other energy consuming appliances. And the US National Aeronautics & Space Administration is using it in satellite monitoring.
