EC launches European health information service

The European Commission has launched a Europe-wide health information service targeted at professionals and the general public.

By CBR Staff Writer

The service, named the European Health Information Platform, is backed by E1.4 million from the EU Public Health Program. The service is a multimedia initiative that it is hoped will encourage public broadcasters and other media across Europe to produce and exchange reports on a range of health issues pertinent to European citizens.

These reports are expected to incorporate the full range of media available, including television documentaries, radio broadcasts and Internet articles. The European Commission will host these reports through its own radio, web and print media but will also promote them through the media at large.

Ultimately, the European Commission is hoping that the project will provide the EC Health Department with a channel to communicate with EU citizens concerning its health policies, giving it an expedient and convenient way to pass on the latest news to a diverse audience.
