The recently-formed SIX Advisory software lobby has had meetings with European Commission DGXIII information technology head Jean Carpentier concerning the next round of allocation of funds for the Esprit research programme, a Commission official said. David Talbot, in charge of software development within the Community-funded Esprit projects also confirmed that the group which comprises seven of the largest software developers in Europe, including Cap Gemini Sogeti SA, Logica Plc, Volmac Software Groep NV and Sema Group Plc – are being taken seriously by the Commission. But asked whether he thought their claim that too much of a hardware bias existed within Community-funded research projects was true, he said you can’t ask me to comment on that. An archetypal civil servant.
