Although traditionally viewed as auction only, the eBay website already enables the instant sale of some goods. The eBay website already carries a ‘Buy it now’ function which accounts for a third of all the items listed on the website.
eBay to launch new fixed price format
eBay is to launch a new format which lets buyers and sellers on its website skip auctions entirely. The auction process currently starts automatically if a bid is entered below the requested price. eBay plans to change this to enable sellers to request a fixed price sale only without going to auction. The change was requested by eBay users and is expected to satisfy retailers and other companies that sell products using the eBay website.
