The new Mozilla Firefox eBay Edition comes with an eBay Companion sidebar tool built-in. It allows heavy eBay users to remain signed in to eBay and monitor their auctions and sales even when they’re not on the eBay web sites.

The auction firm said that the browser also gives users increased security by alerting them if they try to enter their eBay or PayPal username and password into a phishing page or otherwise unauthorized web site.

For Mozilla, the deal is yet another potentially significant route onto the desktops of the typical web user. The firm already has distro deals for customized versions of Firefox with the likes of Google and AllPeers.

Such deals have not been uncommon in the past. Microsoft, for example, has long allowed ISPs to distribute lightly customized versions of Internet Explorer to their subscribers.
