Retail giant eBay has barred its eBay Enterprise division from selling ads on its main websites and mobile apps, ahead of the company split into three units.

The Enterprise division of the retail giant sells logistics services and e-commerce solutions to large and mid-sized retailers and owns a marketing division which is designed to let retailers advertise online.

The unit was allowed to buy ad space from eBay for some of its clients, but now the enterprise unit will not be able to continue selling ads on the main eBay website.

The company is also planning to slash 2,400 jobs ahead of the split, and reports suggest that the Enterprise group will be on the losing side.

eBay Enterprise has not been completely cut off, as it will be able to target ads outside of eBay’s own sites and apps by using data from eBay.

The decision has made Triad Retail Media an exclusive seller for advertising on eBay’s properties.

Previously, it was reported that eBay Enterprise, which is a blend of several acquisitions including Magento and GSI Commerce, was not completely integrated into the company’s core business.

Re/code cited an eBay spokesman Ryan Moore as saying: "We felt our previous sales configuration made it too difficult for customers to understand and access our suite of off-eBay display ad solutions."

"We also felt that unifying our sales teams would increase customer focus and allow us to improve our solutions to better meet marketer needs."
