Eastman Kodak Co has been tinkering around at the edges trying to trim down its operations and improve profitability to little effect, but the Rochester, New York company has decided that the only answer is to take an axe to non-performing businesses, and it announced yesterday that while it plans to stay in the copier business, but intends to sell 10 other units or businesses – and has had offers for four of them, a project that is part of of its government contract business, and the Datatape, Estek and Videk; units; on the imaging side, it is to formalise its informal alliance with Canon Inc and extend it to include joint development and manufacturing projects initially in the office products imaging market; two of the other businesses it plans to sell, the Atex newspaper printing systems business and the Desktop Document Imaging unit, are now in the hands of investment bankers.
