Burlington, Massachusetts-based Easel Corp has added what it calls ‘persistent object mapping’ to its Synchronicity tools for managing collections of objects. It says that the new 2.0 release removes the need for developers to write specific SQL code for enabling object models to access relational databases. Synchronicity, which used to be called Synchrony, is part of Easel’s Object Studio object development system. Synchronicity works with Easel’s Enfin SmallTalk and graphical user interface development environment. The software stores mapping between object models and relational databases in an atlas; Synchronicity-generated object request brokers use the atlas to link objects and data automatically, according to the company. Any changes to either the object or relational models are also replicated in the atlas. The tools can generate SmallTalk object classes from database entities, and class attributes can be mapped to relational items. Version 2.0 of the product has an object query builder, object cursor editor and SQL editor. Prices for versions of the product to run under Microsoft Corp Windows start from $5,000.
