IT community site and IPO superstar EarthWeb Inc has bought DICE, a privately held online job posting service for IT professionals. EarthWeb is buying DICE for about $35m worth of shares, with additional consideration based on future performance. That’s more than four times the $7.7m DICE earned in 1998, but the Des Moines, Iowa-based company is growing fast. In 1997 it made only $3.7m. From 1997 to 1998 DICE also lifted advertiser numbers from 700 to 2,000. If it can continue to grow at that rate, DICE could help EarthWeb justify its spectacular market debut.
