Earthlink Network Inc, the Pasadena, California internet service provider has reported a second-quarter net loss of $7.8m on revenue up 180% at $18.8m, up from a loss of $6.8m a year ago. Net loss for the sixth months was $16.1m on revenue of $34.6m, up from a loss of $11.7m on revenue of $10.1m last year. During the quarter, the company says it added 49,000 members to a base that now stands at 328,000, including members acquired with the company’s purchase of Internet In A Mall Inc. Membership has grown 44% over the first six months of the year. Also during the quarter, Earthlink announced a partnership role in CNet’s new Snap! Online venture (CI No 3,188) which makes Earthlink’s dial- up service the exclusive internet access component of Snap! Earthlink has agreed to distribute 10 million co-branded CD-ROM starter kits beginning in the fourth quarter of the year.
