The city’s network was implemented in Katrina’s wake for first responders and free public access. The new EarthLink system will be two-tired, just like the network EarthLink has underway in San Francisco.
The first tier is free and will be available as the city continues to rebuild itself. This tier’s speed will be limited at 300Kbps, but on the plus side, the service will be ad-free. The second, paid tier will clock in at 1mbps and include EarthLink support services.
EarthLink will use Wi-Fi routers from Tropos Network for the project.
