Terayon Communication Systems Inc, the Santa Clara, California cable modem manufacturer, has reported a second quarter net loss to June 30 of $14.6m, compared to $5.6m last year, on revenue up 179.2% at $19.1m. The loss for the six months was $20.5m compared to $11.3m, on revenues up 272% at $34.9m. The firm recorded a loss per share of $0.17, beating the First Call estimate of $0.22. The company’s major customers include Excite@Home cable operator Shaw Communications in the US and United Pan-European Communications NV in Europe. It says it shipped 58,000 modems in the quarter, and has a 225,000 modem deal with UPC. Terayon also announced the acquisition of privately-held Imedia Corporation, a supplier of routing and re-multiplexing systems for digital video, for $100m in shares.
