Prodigy Communications Corp, the White Plains, New York-based internet service provider, has reported a second-quarter net loss of $11.4m on revenue up 9.3% at $37.1m, compared to a loss of $15.5m in the year-ago quarter. On a per-share basis, the loss amounted to $0.19, when analysts surveyed by First Call were expecting a loss of $0.30. Results include a $3.3m one-time gain from the sale of TCI Music shares received as compensation for a transaction in a prior period. Net of the gain, the loss was $0.24. Revenue for Prodigy Internet were $30.1m, while Prodigy Classic brought in $5.0m. The company says that during the quarter internet subscribers managed increased 106% to 796,000 from 386,000 in the year ago period, excluding the Classic subscriber base. Combined with subscribers from the Cable & Wireless acquisition, total internet subscribers managed would exceed 900,000. For the six month period, net loss was $27.1m on revenue up 8.5% at $73m, against a loss of $32.2m last year.
