Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products NV, The Belgian-American speech recognition software and services company, has reported first quarter net income of $12.3m on revenue up 102% at $70.7m, compared to a net loss of $817,000 in the year-ago period. Earnings per share for the quarter were $0.21, which included one-time items that resulted in a net gain of $5.3m – mainly due to unrealized currency exchange gains. Excluding the one-time items, earnings were $0.12 per share, or $0.02 better than the consensus estimate of analysts surveyed by First Call. Results for the year-ago quarter included acquisition-related charges of $11.2m, without which earnings would have also been $0.12. During the quarter, revenue from the company’s technologies and solutions division reached $24.7m, while the applications division brought in $22.1m and the consulting and services division saw sales of $23.4m. รก
