3Dfx Interactive Inc, San Jose-based provider of 3D graphics chips and related software, has reported a first-quarter net loss of $2.2m on revenue down 19.1% at $40.4m, compared to net income of $7.5m, or $0.50 per share in the year-ago quarter. On a per share basis, the loss amounted to $0.14, when analysts surveyed by First Call were expecting a loss of just $0.09. Also, during the first quarter of what was fiscal 1999, the company changed its fiscal year end to January 31, 2000. As a result, January 1999 figures have been reported separately and effectively represent the entire 1999 fiscal year. Net loss for the stub year was $3.5m, or $.22 per share, on revenue of $17m.
