Electronic Arts (EA) has appointed its sports and digital games unit chief Andrew Wilson as its new CEO.
The 39-year-old, who has serving EA for 13 years, has headed the game publisher’s online portal Origin as well as leading the sports franchises.
EA chairman Larry Probst said that Andrew is the first studio executive to serve as the game publisher’s CEO.
"I am convinced that Andrew was an inspired choice by our Board, and one I expect the team at EA will enthusiastically support," Probst said.
The latest appointment comes after the former CEO John Riccitiello left the firm in March 2013 due to shortcomings in the company’s financial results at the time.
In April, the game maker started slashing jobs at its Montreal game studio in Canada as part of its strategy to streamline operations.
EA has reported sharp fall in growth as more gamers are shifting towards free games on social networks and mobile devices.
However, EA is anticipating higher revenues during the following financial year of $4bn.
