Don’t let your desktop publishing department see this – they’re sure to want one each: according to Microbytes Daily, Dycam Inc, Chatsworth, California has come up with a charge-coupled device stills camera, the Dycam 1GS, with shutter speeds of 1/30th to 1/2000th of a second, depth of field from 2 feet to infinity, a perfect portrait to produce pictures of 376 by 240 pixels in 256 shares of grey; your correspondent goes out on assignment to interview some big-wig, takes a set of shots and returning to the office, drops the unit into a cradle that connects it to the serial port of your Apple Computer Inc Macintosh; software running on the host includes a menu selection for uploading the images at a rate of about 20 seconds per photograph and the image can then be displayed and edited on-screen using such packages as Digital Darkroom for sending to a PostScript printer or a typesetter; production units are planned for the autumn at $900 and software for MS-DOS is in the plan.
