Currently any number of organizations can access the DVLA’s records as long as they can prove they have reasonable cause to do so.
Kablenet has revealed that the DVLA is now reviewing these regulations, following revelations by a Sunday newspaper that sensitive personal information was being made accessible to a convicted fraudster who was running a car clamping firm.
The report goes on to say that among the measures under consideration, are the increasing of the enquiry fee and a complete ban on private car parking firms accessing the records. The DVLA is looking to implement a spot checking system, which would keep tabs on how the information is used and by whom, the report added.
