DVD-RAM DEFECTORS WILL LEND SUPPORT FOR STANDARDIZATION

Seems that all ten of the companies who in April agreed common specifications for DVD-RAM will seek its standardization by the European Computer Manufacturers Association meets in Kobe Wednesday, despite last week’s news that three of the ten, Sony, Hewlett-Packard and Philips plan to seek approval for a separate, and incompatible standard. Nihon Keizai Shimbun says that the standard is likely to win global acceptance if it gets the nod from the European industry and that Sony has no plans to make equipment conforming to the standard even if it wins approval.
