Dual-screen YOTAPHONE 2 takes on Samsung & Apple in China

Smartphone was launched at Russian embassy in Beijing.

The YOTAPHONE 2 device, notable for being the first smartphone to carry a second screen on the back which uses electronic paper display technology, was officially launched by Vlad Martynov, YOTA Devices CEO at the Russian embassy in Beijing.

The new YotaPhone was designed in Russia and manufactured in China. JieLan, a Chinese company, will be in charge of promotion, sales and customer services for the device.

YotaPhone partnerships were highlighted in November by Russian president Vladimir Putin as a symbol of cooperation between the two nations.

The second screen offers always-on capabilities and a more gentle reading experience, allowing the device to carry a battery life of over 100 hours in reading mode.

Vlad Martynov, CEO of YOTA Devices said: "From technology point of view, this is a breakthrough in the way people use and interact with smartphones. YOTA Devices is the first and only company which can integrate electronic paper display into a smartphone and create brand new and more comfortable user experience.

"That’s why YOTAPHONE provides completely different, much more comfortable user experience and highlight different lifestyle and status of YotaPhone users that other smartphones can not provide."

A statement from the two companies said: "JieLan CEO, Mr. Song XiaoDong, is very confident about the ongoing cooperation with YOTA Devices. He believes in a very successful partnership, with the aim of making YOTAPHONE 2 a leader in the high-tech smartphone segment and the starting point of a new era for intelligent devices."
