The UK Department of Trade & Industry has invested UKP5.75m in a three-year programme to push through neural network research into industry: no word on the companies that might be interested in taking up the challenge, but Edinburgh University is reported to be among the academic institutes that are cultivating the technology; neural computing relates to research into making computers work more like the human brain, encompassing fuzzy inference technology, voice recognition and the like; the Department wants to see the technology brought out of the laboratory and onto the market, and will be hosting a series of seminars to introduce the technology to potential industrial partners; the programme is part of the Joint Framework for Information Technology set up by the Department of Trade & Industry and the Science & Engineering Research Council.
