Dynamic Solutions International (DSI) has released new VTL with data de-duplication family of products the DSI9303-D VTL and the DSI9983-S96 enterprise edition.
The company said that the new DSI9303-D and DSI9983-S96 provides integrated data de-duplication to eliminate the redundant data generated by backup processes. De-duplication rates of 10 to 1 reduce the storage footprint by 90% or more.
According to DSI, the new DSI9303-D virtual tape and data de-duplication consolidates the management of backup resources makes high speed disks appear as virtual tape drives and libraries to backup servers attached to an iSCSI/IP or Fibre Channel (FC) storage area network (SAN). The DSI9983-S96 enterprise edition supports both one-to-one and many-to-one replication configurations to enable tape infrastructure consolidation at a centralised data site.
With DSI9303-D remote office / branch office servers deployed at each site, virtual tapes in remote locations can be replicated via WAN to the data centre, where the DSI9983-S96 enterprise edition aggregates the data into a clustered repository of data.
In addition, DSI has partnered with FalconStor Software, a provider of Totally Open data protection offerings, to bring to market the new VTL and data de-duplication storage offerings.
De-duplication can be performed concurrently with the backup or after the backup completes, to optimise storage efficiency without affecting the backup window. With de-duplication, companies keep much more backup data on fast-recovery RAID arrays than with any conventional disk backup system, the company claims.
Chris Johnson, vice president of storage solutions for DSI, said: “This new series of products that include data de-duplication seamlessly integrates with existing backup applications and presents no performance impact when retrieving backup data. When coupled with high-performance disk arrays, both the backup speeds and the data recovery processes are significantly accelerated, thereby reducing overall data protection costs.”
