DSC LOOKS TO BOOST INFUSION NETWORK PRODUCTS WITH TI BUY

By CBR Staff Writer

DSC Communications Corp is hoping to boost its INfusion family of intelligent network products with the acquisition of the Telecommunications Systems Division business of Texas Instruments Inc. DSC will add Texas Instruments voice-activated dialing and facsimile messaging services to INfusion. The cash purchase also involves DSC taking on about 100 Austin and Dallas-based Texas employees as well as a co-operative relationship between DSC and Texas Instruments’s Multimedia Technology Laboratory for speech recognition. The deal should be concluded by mid-June but financial details have yet to be disclosed. Using DSC’s INfusion Intelligent Peripheral 4000, IP4000, telecommunications carriers will be able to offer both INfusion Voice-Activated Services, including voice-activated dialing and voice-activated network control capabilities, and INfusion Integrated Message Services such as facsimile services: fax mailback, fax broadcast and fax- on-demand.
