DSC Communications Corp, of Plano, Texas is to buy Amdahl Corp’s Communications Systems Division according to CommunicationsWeek. The US trade paper believes the deal will be consummated within 30 days, but neither side would comment. The Amdahl unit, structured around its 1970s acquisition of Tran, makes T-1 multiplexers, modems and X25 packet switches, some of which were sold by AT&T for a time. It employs 400 in Richardson, Texas, and is thought to have done $50m last year. DSC did $317m last year in T-1 multiplexers, carrier switching equipment and local area networks.
