Drexler Technology Corp, the Mountain View, California originator of the tape-covered plastic LaserCard that its written and read by a laser, says it will start marketing laser-based workstations in the US in February, with the first generation designed for medical record-keeping, desktop publishing and identification access control systems. The workstations will be interactive through use of the 2Mb LaserCard, which can also be used to transfer databases between workstations. A writable card can now store 2.5Mb, a read-only up to 4Mb.
