For those who hate keyboarding and don’t feel stoopid talking to a computer, Dragon Systems Inc, Newton, Massachusetts is working on a speech recognition system able to hold a vocabulary of 5,000 words, which should be enough for most business letters and things like that: as with most of these things, reports the Wall Street Journal, you have to create your own spoken dictionary for the thing, typing in the word and telling the machine how to expect it to sound – although Dragon is making it a little easier by including a text dictionary so that with most words you’ll be able to key just a few letters and the thing will come back with all the words it has got that start that way; DragonDictate is $9,000.
